The library of the Royal Institute of Art is located on the entrance floor of the main building on Skeppsholmen.

The library is usually attended Monday-Friday at 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm, although there may be exceptions. If you want to be sure of staffed support, you are always welcome to book your visit in advance. Many matters can also be dealt with digitally or remotely, via email, chat, or video calls via Teams. 

The library is also open to students and staff 24 hours every day of the week, and self-service is available to a large extent.

Everyone is welcome to borrow books and materials from the library. Apply for a library account via our online registration form and contact the library for authorization. The checkout period is one month, but there are some exceptions depending on the type of material. You can loan, renew and reserve borrowed titles directly in our local library catalog.

Students and staff can borrow materials (books, journals, articles, scientific publications, etc.) that are not available locally through interlibrary loan service, including from international libraries. Contact biblioteket@kkh.se and we will help you.

The easiest way to return items is via the return box located outside the library in the main entrance to the Royal Institute of Art. The return box is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

In the local library catalog, you can search through our local holdings. For a broader overview, we recommend the national library catalog Libris, where you can find books and journals from other libraries in Sweden and the Nordic countries, many of which are available for interlibrary loan.

Research publications and student theses from the Royal Institute of Art from and other swedish universities can be found via DiVA. The library can provide support if you are interested in publishing in DiVA. A useful resource for both finding and publishing documents and information related to artistic research is Research Catalogue.

Book a teaching appointment (individually or in a group) with a librarian to learn more about advanced information retrieval, assistance with publishing your thesis in DiVA, or if you need tips on how to find books, articles, or other materials. On-site or digitally, you choose!

New students are given library introductions and tours of the physical library, where we show how books and journals are located and how you can borrow and reserve items when there are no library staff on site.

The library regularly organizes workshops and events related to literature, information dissemination, and reading and writing processes in a broad sense.

If you have a reading disability, you can get help accessing talking books and digital aids such as speech synthesis programs or apps for transcribing speech to text. We will help you apply for an account for adapted course literature at the Swedish Agency for Accessible Media (MTM) for use of the talking book and braille database Legimus.
